Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality And The World Of The Future

Augmented reality and virtual reality are two phenomenal fields that are constantly evolving. Nowadays, though you might not realize, AR and VR are not only used for gaming. Today, a number of industries see benefits in the implementation of virtual and augmented reality technologies and solutions. Even doctors are training with these sorts of technologies to assure the success of future surgeries.

But, let’s start from the very beginning. Maybe some of you are already grabbing your heads or focusing your eyes trying to understand what augmented reality and virtual reality actually are and what their connection is with our online coding courses. Well, let us explain it to you a bit better.

What is augmented reality and virtual reality?

Indeed, the world is changing. Technology is evolving at a speed we cannot control, and new and more developed solutions appear every day. Did you ever imagine that virtual reality and augmented reality could be used to produce better tomatoes in agriculture? Or that painters could do full exhibitions in a world that only exist virtually? Well, let us tell you a bit more about each one of these exciting fields.

What is Virtual Reality? It’s origins and a glimpse into the future

According to Wikipedia, VR, or virtual reality, is an interactive computer-generated experience taking place within a simulated environment. It incorporates mainly auditory and visual feedback, but may also allow other types of sensory feedback like haptic. This immersive environment can be similar to the real world or it can be fantastical.

However, the Virtual Reality Society, from the UK, refers to it in a slightly different way, saying that: “The definition of virtual reality comes, naturally, from the definitions for both ‘virtual’ and ‘reality’. The definition of ‘virtual’ is near and reality is what we experience as human beings. So the term ‘virtual reality’ basically means ‘near-reality’. This could, of course, mean anything but it usually refers to a specific type of reality emulation.”

In general terms, virtual reality is actually a 3D environment that was generated through a computer.

What about Augmented Reality? What is AR?

The concepts of artificial intelligence, internet of things and interactivity are also, somehow related to what augmented reality really is. It is enough to read its name to understand that Augment Reality offers a different dimension to the world we all see, by adding bigger and new elements to it, through an environment we see only when we enter this world.

According to Wikipedia, AR is “an interactive experience of a real-world environment where the objects that reside in the real-world are “augmented” by computer-generated perceptual information, sometimes across multiple sensory modalities, including visual, auditory, haptic, somatosensory, and olfactory.” Can you believe it?! Augmented reality can even help you smell things you don’t actually have in front of you… not in real life.

Great examples of virtual reality and augmented reality

With the appearance of these new technologies, surgeons believe that AR will allow them to perform surgeries more effectively and efficiently. How? Take a look at this short and explanatory video.

Painters, designers and even fashion designers are fascinated by how useful virtual and augmented reality are. The potential is so huge, that even Google launched the Tilt Brush to offer these creative minds the opportunity to experience this not-so-hidden new world. Take a look!

Of course, in gaming there are thousands of great examples, and every day a new PS4, Nintendo or Xbox game appears that requires the use of virtual reality lenses, Oculus, or any other competitor.

But, agriculture and AR? Yes! With the new developments, you can even calculate how much fruit you’ll get from each tree, only by controlling it from a mobile device. Watch this short video and see more!

Your kids can create these environments! Teach them how to code!

The first step to becoming an innovator in this field and to creating phenomenal environments that will contribute to making our world a better, more inclusive, and more connected place is to learn how to code.

We know it is hard to find the right place to teach our kids how to program, that is why we have developed a unique, friendly system where your kids will learn how to code in an online, live and engaging class where the learning is hands-on and where they can ask and practice as much as they want!

By joining one of our online coding classes your children will receive the 21st-century skills they need to create praiseworthy solutions. Who knows? Maybe your kiddo will be the one assuring that all surgeries work 100% perfectly. How? By learning how to code. Give them the chance, it is in your hands!
